Nearly one in five people in Turkey is obese, according to the results of a 2019 health survey released by the TÜİK on June 4.

The survey showed that 21.1 percent of the Turkish people aged 15 years and older had a body mass index of 30 or over, TÜİK said. The rate was 19.6 percent in 2016.

Kaju, a Turkish street cat who was diagnosed with a rare condition called dwarfism, is still under the care of veterinary doctors and draws fans who visit its home at an Ankara animal hospital.

Bulgarians turn out to be the shortest nation in Europe, the factors for this being both genetic and social, Assoc. Prof. Racho Stoev - Head of the Department of Anthropology and Anatomy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, told BNT programme on 13th of February, reports BNT. 

Researchers have pinpointed 83 genetic variants that could affect the height of a person. The group, led by the distinguished Greek genetics professor Panos Deloukas of the Queen Mary University and William Harvey Research Institute, published their findings in ‘Nature” magazine.
