Humanitarian intervention

Bernard-Henri Levy has been one of the most prominent figures of the French intelligentsia for a good four decades. He was at the forefront of the Nouveaux Philosophes (New Philosophers) movement that broke from its communist roots and sought to deconstruct Marxism.

A few months ago, in an intervention before the European Parliament, I called for the need to protect Europe so that Europe would protect its citizens.

Whilst there are no golden ages, it is abundantly clear that the world today is in a very unhealthy state. From Eastern Europe to North Africa to the Middle East, countries, in recent years, have been severely destabilised, resulting in carnage and the destruction of hundreds of thousands of lives.

And at the heart of that destabilisation is American and British foreign policy.

“Anti-foreign interventionism” has long been central to my politics. Coming from a young socialist background, I have been a staunch opponent of all sorts of imperialism, all the way. I was one of the most enthusiastic “anti-war coalition” activists before and after the U.S. invasion of Iraq. No regrets, I still feel the same anger about the neo-con U.S.
