Families start hunger strike in Diyarbakır for return of children who joined PKK

A group of families in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır have started a hunger strike to demand the return of their children who joined the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The families were holding a sit-in protest in front of the Diyarbakır Municipality amid demands that the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) mediate for the release of their children.

Kaziu tried to set himself on fire after making a statement to reporters accusing the centre-left government of Prime Minister Edi Rama of failing to uphold its promises to repay former political prisoners for their suffering.

TV pictures show Kaziu trying to pour a bottle of petrol over himself, before being tackled to the ground by police officers.

Concern over Ivanovic's deteriorated health

BELGRADE - The Serbian government office for Kosovo stated on Friday concern of the deteriorated health of Citizen Initiative SDP leader Oliver Ivanovic, who has been on a hunger strike in a prison in Pristina for four days.

"Ivanovic's condition is so poor that he was unable to make it through his lawyer's visit today, according to what we have been told," the statement says.
