UberBOAT, an Uber service operating on the Croatian coast since last year, has said it intends to increase operations on the Adriatic this year.

A one-way trip from the city of Split to the island of Hvar by Uber for a boatload of eight people costs 350 euros by Uber, or just over 40 euros per person.

Faced with such problems as an ageing population, the flight of young people, patchy healthcare and the over-dominance of tourism , the procedure is starting for the drafting of Croatia's new Law on Islands, designed to address some of these issues.

Hvar Mayor Rikardo Novak has declared war on "rambunctious tourists and nudity" in the streets of the town, located on the eponymous island in the Adriatic.

According to Bosnia-based website klix.ba, the mayor of the Croatian town thus made good on his promise.

Summer on the Croatian Adriatic coast this year is attracting a fair selection of the international jet set and sports stars. Most have been heading for the island of Hvar and Dubrovnik, resorts that combine culture, cuisine, beaches and nightlife.

European Coastal Airlines, based in Zagreb and owned by German entrepreneur Klaus Dieter Martin, will launch seaplane flights from Split to Pula and the islands of Rab and Hvar next month.
