Eastern Turkish city becomes hub for migratory birds
The eastern Turkish province of Iğdır that borders Iran, Armenia and Nakhichevan has become a haven for migratory birds thanks to geographical conditions.
The wetlands in Iğdır became colorful with birds as they began to flock to the region from the southern hemisphere following seasonal change.
Turkey to reopen Mount Ağrı to climbers
Mount Ağrı in eastern Turkey, also known as Mount Ararat, will be reopened to climbers on Feb. 4, thanks to effective anti-terror operations.
The country's tallest mountain, dubbed the "roof of Turkey" with its height of 5,137 meters (16,853 feet), is located in the eastern border province of Igdir.

Four mayors detained over alleged terror links
Four mayors from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in southeastern and eastern Turkey have been detained over alleged terror links, according to local media reports.
Iğdır Municipality Mayor Yaşar Akkuş, Siirt Mayor Berivan Helen Işık, Baykan Mayor Ramazan Sarsılmaz and Kurtalan Mayor Bara Akgül have been detained over suspected links to terrorism.

Turkey launches new anti-terrorist operation in east
With over 1,000 personnel, Turkey has launched a new anti-terror operation in three eastern provinces, the Interior Ministry announced on March 13.
In a statement, the ministry said Operation Trap-8 Mt. Ararat-Çemce-Madur aims to neutralize all terrorists hiding out in the regions of Mt. Ağrı (Ararat), Cemce, and Madur located in the eastern provinces of Ağrı, Kars, Iğdır.
