Bulgaria with More Snowstorms in the Upcoming Week

The danger of snowstorms remains in the eastern parts of Bulgaria, currently experiencing severe winds, and temperatures will continue to decrease, the National Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology has announced.

Situation will remain critical in many regions as the snowstorm on Friday has also caused power failures across the country, most of which are now fixed.

Winter storm blasts US as Turkish Airlines cancels Istanbul-New York flights

Turkish Airlines suspended its Istanbul-New York flights on Jan. 27 because of an expected major snowstorm in the northeast of the U.S.
      
In an official statement on its website, Turkey's national flag-carrier said a change was also expected in all its flights to Boston.  

New York shuts down as winter storm blasts US

A major storm forced New York to impose driving bans and halt public transport late Jan. 26, as snowfall pounded the northeastern United States affecting tens of millions of people.
      
Heavy snowfall, combined with powerful wind and even thunderstorms is expected to dump two to three feet (up to a meter) of snow in New York, but with New England worst affected.
      

Cold weather persists

Heavy snowfall in various parts of the country, including Attica, Evia, Crete and the Cycladic islands, was expected to continue through Wednesday.

Strong winds reaching 6 to 8 Beaufort were expected in the Aegean Sea while icy conditions were set to hamper travel with several roads being closed to traffic.

Heavy rain causes flooding in Hania

The fire service had to rescue at least 35 people in Hania on the northern coast of Crete, on Thursday after heavy rain, which caused flash floods.

Some homes lost electricity, while the traffic police was forced to close a number of roads, including sections of the national highway because of the dangerous conditions.

BELGRADE -- Temperatures in Serbia will be dropping as low as -20 degrees Celsius in some areas in the coming days, forecasters have warned.

The weather on Wednesday, the last day of the year, will be overcast and very cold, with weak snow, and clear in the north, the state meteorological authority, RHMZ, has announced.

Code Yellow Warning in Bulgaria for Snow, Gale-Force Winds

Bulgaria's national weather service has issued a code yellow warning for snow and high winds on Monday, December 29.

Gusts of wind blowing at up to 25 m/s should be expected across the country, with blizzards and black in all but one (Blagoevgrad) of the 28 districts, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Science (BAS) has reported.

Bulgaria Warns of Snowfall, Rising River Levels

Bulgaria on Sunday issued a high water level warning for most rivers on its territory due to expected rain and snow.

Most affected will be the rivers in northern Bulgaria followed by those in the country's eastern regions, as well the rivers in southwestern Bulgaria, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.
