Volcano erupts in southwestern Iceland
A volcanic eruption started on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwestern Iceland on Thursday, the third to hit the area since December, authorities said.
Live video images showed glowing lava oozing out of a fissure illuminating a plume of smoke rising up under the night sky.

Volcano lava flows into Icelandic village, engulfing homes
Lava flowing from a volcano that erupted on Sunday near the Icelandic fishing port of Grindavik has engulfed at least three homes just hours after villagers were evacuated to safety, authorities said.
It was the North Atlantic nation's fifth volcanic eruption in under three years.

The eruption was also recorded from a satellite, Maxar announced.
The intensity of the eruption has decreased since the dramatic scenes seen on Tuesday morning, although magma continues to seep from the volcano.
Iceland's Foreign Minister Bjarni Benediktsson said experts warned the eruption could last for months.

As a result of those earthquakes, numerous houses were literally "torn apart", and the entire town of Grindavk near the volcano Fagradalsfjall was turned into a ghost town.
As many as 600 earthquakes have been registered since midnight, and experts say lava could pour out any day. About 4,000 inhabitants were evacuated.

Iceland falls short of Europe's first women-majority parliament
Iceland believed briefly on Sept. 26 it had become the first country in Europe to have a women-majority parliament after its election a day earlier, but a recount showed it fell short, an election official told AFP.
