Indonesia mounted a rescue operation on July 30 to reach more than 500 hikers and guides stranded by landslides on an active volcano on Lombok, a day after a powerful earthquake struck the holiday island.

A Hawaiian tour boat was hit by a lava bomb—lava. bomb.—on Monday morning, and at least 22 passengers were injured after at least one hunk of lava smashed a hole in the vessel's roof, according to Hawaii's Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR). Most passengers had minor burns and one woman suffered a broken leg, according to the state agency.

Indonesian police questioned the captain of a ferry that sank without trace in a volcanic lake in Sumatra this week, warning that a criminal investigation could be launched over a disaster that has left at least 192 people missing.

The scene around Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano, now in its fifth week of intense eruption, has taken a turn for the surreal. Amid the ash-gray skies and flame-streaked lava spilling from the volcano's fissures, tiny, glittering green gems are appearing — at times even raining from the sky. These tiny gems are not unexpected during such an eruption, but they're nice to look at anyway.

Earlier, it was clear that only a few dozen people were missing in this area, but total number reached more than 190 people. The impact of the natural disaster affected more than 1.7 million people,  a three-day national mourning was declared in connection with the tragedy.

Rescuers scoured a lava- and ash-ravaged landscape in Guatemala for a third straight day on June 6 in search of survivors and victims of Fuego volcano's calamitous eruption, which has killed at least 99 people.

Guatemalan rapid response forces have evacuated people from the areas around the Fuego volcano, which erupted again, the  BBC reported.

At least 75 people died at the first eruption on Sunday. 192 people are still missing.

Ashes from the Santorini Volcano, the world's biggest volcanic eruption in history, were found after 3,600 years in the ancient city of Smyrna in İzmir. 

GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters) - An estimated 25 people, including at least three children, were killed and nearly 300 injured on Sunday in the most violent eruption of Guatemala's Fuego volcano in more than four decades, officials said.
