Štuhec and Kranjec keep Slovenian skiing fans proud

Slovenian Alpine ski racers kept their contact to the world's best this season, owing to Ilka Štuhec in the women's World Cup and Žan Kranjec in the men's competitions. Štuhec finished as the runner-up in the overall downhill standings and Kranjec placed third in the final giant slalom standings.

Ilka Štuhec clinches her tenth World Cup win

Ilka Štuhec won the women's downhill race in Italy's Cortina d'Ampezzo on 21 January for her tenth career World Cup victory, six of which she has clinched in downhill, her strongest discipline.

Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie came in second, 0.26 seconds behind Štuhec, and Italian Elena Curtoni was third, with a lag of 0.34 seconds.

Winter sports teams gather in Pokljuka ahead of new season

Association head Enzo Smrekar addressed the athletes, saying that he believed that they trained hard and were entering the season ready. "The season is important because it is an Olympic season and we stand behind you, be confident, show what you are capable of and I believe that results will come this year".
