Imputed income

The Ministry of National Economy and Finance has indicated that 75% of the government’s pre-election pledges have already been fulfilled just a year and a half after the elections, largely due to the announcements made at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF). Now, preparations are already underway for a new wave of measures set to roll out from 2025 onward.

Salaried employees remain the “wealthiest” Greeks according to the analysis of data from the 2024 tax returns (income earned in 2023).

Freelancers now occupy the second position, mainly due to the change in their taxation method (imputed income) rather than because they declared higher incomes, with retirees slightly trailing behind.

The government is limiting the options of professionals looking for loopholes to avoid presumptive taxation.
