Oedipus Rex | Epidaurus | July 12 & 13

A pinnacle of ancient Greek tragedy, Sophocles' "Oedipus Rex" tells the harrowing tale of a son struck by confounding misfortune when he unknowingly murders his father. The Ancient Theater of Epidaurus will present a new take on the drama, directed by Constantinos Markoulakis with music conducted by Minos Mastsas, as part of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival.

Pennywise Inspired Halloween Party | Athens | October 28

The Romantso venue is organizing a Halloween party inspired by the creepy clown in Stephen King's best-selling novel "It," who has a knack for embodying everyone's worst nightmares. The theme coincides with screenings at Greek theaters of the book's latest film adaptation, directed by Andy Muschietti. Admission is free of charge and doors open at 11 p.m.

Porn | Athens | June 15-17

Choreographer Ioanna Portolou and her Griffon dance company conclude a trilogy that began in 2014 ("Forest" and "Taboo") with "Porn," a new production exploring boundaries, both personal and social, and the notion of crossing them. The performance will be staged every evening from Thursday, June 15, to Saturday, June 17, in the E hall of the Greek Festival's Pireos 260 venue.

Pranksters nearly get killed when their prank goes wrong (vid)

A group of pranksters took their act to the streets of Los Angeles, and particularly to the mean streets of Compton, where a very unexpected reaction of a man shocked everyone.

The team from TwinzTV donned mankinis underneath their clothes for the prank entitled: ‘How to win a street fight in Compton’.

Costa-Gavras award at Cannes Film Festival (video)

The Cannes Film Festival organized the screening of Greek-French director Costa-Gavras, “Z”. The restored version of the work was created in honor of the award-winning director and producer.

Thierry Frémaux, artistic director of the Cannes Film Festival, praised the director’s work for its ability to rip-roar through borders as a carrier of culture messages across Europe.
