US Airstrikes from Turkey against ISIS start

The United States has began its military air strikes from Incirlik air Base in Turkey against ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria Wednesday, August 5, US officials told CNN international. Sources in turkey confirmed the report, adding that the US armed drones hit a number of targets near Raqqa, an ISIS stronghold in Syria.

Turkey Formally Opens Incirlik Air Base for Coalition Strikes on IS

Turkey has officially allowed the US-led coalition to use the country's Incirlik Air Base for airstrikes against targets of Islamic State (IS) group in Syria, state-run Anadolu news agency (AA) reported on Wednesday.

Ankara first announced it would opening its air bases for manned and unmanned coalition aircraft on 24 July following years of reluctance.

NATO Backs Turkey's Fight Against 'Terrorism'

NATO supported Turkey's increased role in the fight against Islamic State (IS) on Tuesday.

"The security of the Alliance is indivisible, and we stand in strong solidarity with Turkey," NATO said in a statement following a 90-minute emergency meeting of ambassadors from the 28 member states of the Alliance convened at Turkey's request.

Incirlik Base Will Not Be Used in Fight against IS, Turkey Says

The Incirlik Airbase could only be used by the international coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS) group if there is a "comprehensive process", a spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry has said.

Tanju Bilgic said on Wednesday the inclusion of the base in US-led operations was currently "out of the question".
