Catalonia to press ahead with independence drive after two million vote

Catalonia's nationalist government vowed to step up its secession drive after over two million people voted Nov. 9 in a symbolic independence referendum which Spain's central government dismissed it as "useless."

Catalan government head Artur Mas called the vote, not sanctioned by Madrid, "a total success" after a large majority of those who took part supported independence.

Croatian Adviser Axed for Querying Independence Vote

Croatian President Ivo Joipovic has axed one of his chief advisers for slating the country's 1991 independence referendum as illiberal and undemocratic.

Professor Dejan Jovic expressed his highly controversial thoughts on the referendum on independence from Yugoslavia earlier this week in an academic journal, "Political Thought".
