From words to violence

Gone are the days when the jeering of public figures found apologists who justified insults or even violence as an expression of righteous indignation. 

Those who articulate their views publicly, whether from a political platform or from the pulpit, should observe moderation. Intolerant speech can also lead to corresponding actions - such as slapping. 

Gov’t spokesman denies Tempe railway disaster cover-up

A day ahead of a debate and vote on the findings of a parliamentary committee probe into the Tempe train crash, the government spokesman has rejected allegations that there has been a cover-up of the incident, accusing opposition parties of "instrumentalizing the pain of the victims' relatives."

Let anger create drive

Society is filled with righteous indignation. The fatal systemic failures that unjustly cost the lives of so many people justify the grief and the anger.

But that doesn't mean we have to pull the country apart. The outrage should instead create a drive to quickly fix the long-standing problems.

How will the hatred that has spread around us in the years of the crisis be erased? The Greek people have been deeply divided. You have the supporters of the bailouts versus the critics, the haves versus the have-nots, the patriots versus the traitors and so on. Everyone played a part in drenching Greek society in hatred.
