Flu claims five lives in last two weeks

Five people have died of complications related to the flu in the past two weeks, data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) showed on Thursday, suggesting that the flu season is getting under way.

None had received a flu vaccination, KEELPNO said.

Last year's flu season started in mid-December and was particularly harsh, claiming 108 lives.

Since today the districts of Vidin and Stara Zagora are also in a flu epidemic, according to bTV. 

Until 26 January, the students  in the Stara Zagora region and the Bobov Dol district are in flu holiday, and due to a high incidence of influenza, it was instructed not to hold classes for the same period and two schools in Dupnitsa.

New Influenza Virus was Detected in Bulgaria

A new influenza virus was detected in Bulgaria. Yesterday, the National Reference Laboratory at the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases has demonstrated in four samples from the Sliven region a new strain of group B virus - "Victoria". Of the 300 samples tested, there were 100 positive results, indicating an epidemic spread.
