Iran slaughtered 25 million chickens after the recent appearance of bird flu cases in the country, the Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) reported on Feb. 12. 

After the peak of the flu, 120,000 people are currently ill and at least 100 of them have severe respiratory failure. This was stated in Nova TV by Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev from the Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in "Health Bulgaria".

Five people have died of complications related to the flu in the past two weeks, data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) showed on Thursday, suggesting that the flu season is getting under way.

None had received a flu vaccination, KEELPNO said.

Last year's flu season started in mid-December and was particularly harsh, claiming 108 lives.

Flu epidemic will be declared as of 25th of January in Bulgaria's Sofia district, which does not include Sofia city itself. Schools cancel classes for 5 days until 29th of January.

American molecular biologists have created and successfully tested experimental nanoparticles against all strains of influenza A virus that cause the most serious epidemics. The news is published in an article in Nature Communications magazine.

Since today the districts of Vidin and Stara Zagora are also in a flu epidemic, according to bTV. 

Until 26 January, the students  in the Stara Zagora region and the Bobov Dol district are in flu holiday, and due to a high incidence of influenza, it was instructed not to hold classes for the same period and two schools in Dupnitsa.

RZI - Gabrovo announces a flu epidemic in the municipalities of Tryavna and Dryanovo from today, the Ministry of Health announced. The days until January 26 are reported to be without school attendance.

A flu epidemic is announced today in the municipality of Dimitrovgrad.

Blagoevgrad municipality is from today in a flu epidemic, according to BGNES.

Students will not be in school from today, January 22 to January 24, inclusive.

In Blagoevgrad, the morbidity is over 380 people per 10,000.

A new influenza virus was detected in Bulgaria. Yesterday, the National Reference Laboratory at the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases has demonstrated in four samples from the Sliven region a new strain of group B virus - "Victoria". Of the 300 samples tested, there were 100 positive results, indicating an epidemic spread.

A flu epidemic was announced  in the Pazardzhik region, according to bTV. The morbidity is 255 per 10,000 people.

Students will be in a flu vacation from 19 to 23 January inclusive. The peak of the flu is expected next week.

A check has shown that 30% of students in the area are ill.
