European Universities Face Growing Competition as Asian Institutions Rise in Global Rankings
European universities are seeing a decline in their global standing, as their counterparts in Asia continue to advance, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025. The rankings, which assess research-focused institutions globally, reveal that Europe now hosts 91 of the world's top 200 universities—a decline from 99 in 2019.

UPB wins 16 gold medals at the International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada
The Polytechnic University of Bucharest (UPB) won five trophies, 11 gold medals and diplomas of excellence, four individual certificates of appreciation, as well as five gold medals and prizes at the 4th edition of the International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada, which took place at the end of August.

Following a contentious push by ruling SYRIZA to merge several technical colleges (TEIs) with universities to upgrade their status, Education Minister Costas Gavroglou proposed Friday that old TEI graduates should be allowed to sit exams to upgrade their existing degrees and equate them with those of universities.

Higher education on the ropes after merger bill
The new education bill which was passed into law on Tuesday to merge Greek technical colleges (TEI) with universities will, critics says, undermine standards and plunge the country's higher education system into disarray.
Tellingly, more than 400,000 TEI graduates are demanding that their degrees be upgraded to university degrees.
