The First Vegan and Lenten Foods Festival is taking place on the weekend of April 8 and 9 at the Attiko Fytoriako Parko, a botanical garden in Koropi, eastern Attica that is dedicated to cultivating and showcasing Mediterranean plants.

When it comes to food preferences, but not only that aspect of life, the saying “One man’s meat is another man’s poison” is a fair and balanced one. Unless of course you are a fanatic vegan, in which case that saying is not even in your vocabulary!

At first sight, the selection of products seems fairly normal in the little shop in the side streets of Istanbul's Cihangir neighborhood, where colorful containers fill the closely packed shelfs. However, closer inspection shows that the milk is made of almond, and the meat is actually made of soya. 

If you're ever served a sandwich on wheat germ bread with a walnut pate and avocado mayonnaise, or a chia seed pudding, don't give it a second thought, just tuck in, as vegan and raw food recipes are gaining ground in Greek eateries along with the rise in the number of people embracing these diets.
