Interconnector

A large-scale energy interconnector project linking the United Kingdom to mainland Europe is pressing on, despite the discovery of wartime bombs and mines in the cable’s path.

Bulgaria and Greece will speed up the activities necessary for the completion of the natural gas interconnector project between the two countries, quoted by Tornos news.  The commitment was confirmed during a meeting between Bulgaria's Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Greece's Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister Giorgos Stathakis.

BEIJING - If we want to be an industrialised country, we have to boost our gas consumption from 2 to 4-5 bln cubic meters a year, and Russia is the only place we can get it from, Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic said in Beijing Monday, noting that building a gas interconnector with Bulgaria was important for that reason.

Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) is weighing the idea of acquiring a 20 percent stake in the project of the planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal off Alexandroupoli, in northern Greece, after the project received a fresh boost from the completion of the entry of GasLog (which belongs to shipowner Peter Livanos) with another 20 percent stake.

European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete is in Athens where he is holding negotiations with the Greek government on key energy projects.

The interconnector Greece - Bulgaria is among these projects.

The Bulgarian government has tasked outgoing Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova with signing a Memorandum of Understanding on the gas interconnector with Serbia.

The draft MoU was approved last year and aims at speeding up construction activities.

The flow of gas through the interconnector between Romania and Bulgaria will not be fully enabled for the next two years, outgoing Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said on Friday.

The lack of a compressor station on the Romanian side of the Danube (which serves as a natural border between the countries) impede the daily flow from Romania into Bulgaria, Petkova told lawmakers.

Gas transmission operators Bulgartransgas EAD and Transgas C.A. - Romania have completed the construction of the intersystem gas link Bulgaria-Romania, reported BGNES.

The interconnector Bulgaria-Romania has a total length of 25 km, of which 15.4 km on Bulgarian territory, 7.5 km on Romanian territory and 2.1 underwater transit link through the Danube.

The gas interconnector to Romania will become operational on November 11, stated PM Boyko Borisov at a meeting with his counterpart Aleksandar Vučić.

Borisov called for the intersystem link between Serbia and Bulgaria to be completed as well, since it is vital for both countries.
