Vucic to attend EU-Western Balkans summit in Brussels

BRUSSELS - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will attend an EU-Western Balkans summit in Brussels on Wednesday.

The summit will be chaired by new European Council President Antonio Costa and also attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Vucic will attend a European People's Party-Western Balkans summit as well.

Meimarakis appointed to European People’s Party Task Force

Greek MEP and former New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis has been appointed as his party's representative on the European People's Party (EPP) Task Force.

The Task Force, which includes senior EPP officials and members of the Wilfried Martens Center for European Studies, will draft the EPP's manifesto.

A European prosecutor's office is investigating allegations of fraud and corruption linked to Manfred Weber's 2019 European Parliament election campaign, including the potential misuse of EU funds, as reported by Politico. Weber, a significant figure in Brussels politics and the leader of the European People's Party (EPP), is not currently named as a suspect in the inquiry.

EPP Considers Reversal of Ban on Gasoline Cars in EU

Manfred Weber, chairman of the European People's Party (EPP) group in the European Parliament, revealed plans to discuss the potential reversal of the ban on gasoline-powered cars in the EU by 2035. Speaking to Politico shortly after his party's victory in the European elections, Weber deemed the ban a mistake and hinted at a shift in policy direction.

Based on the projections by Europe Elects, the outcome of the 2024 European elections seems set to follow a similar pattern to recent national elections, with a surge in right-wing parties. The next European Parliament (EP) could end up having more members from the extreme right than from the chamber's historically dominant force, the mainstream conservative European People's Party (EPP).
