International reactions to the Israel–Hamas war

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Istanbul late Friday for talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, focusing on migration, regional conflicts, and defense cooperation.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has engaged in discussions with senior Hamas officials in Istanbul to advance efforts towards a ceasefire that would facilitate a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Fidan met with Mohammad Darwish Ismail, Chairman of Hamas' Shura Council, and other key members of Hamas' Political Bureau.

On Friday, US President Joe Biden arrived in Germany, marking the first official state visit by an American president since the country's reunification. Biden's visit comes just three weeks before the US presidential elections. He was initially scheduled to visit Germany and Angola from October 10-15, but the trip was delayed due to Hurricane Milton.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and has called for action "so that southern Lebanon does not become another 'Gaza' in the context of Israel's legitimate right to defend itself against Iranian attacks."

Greece on Monday marked the first anniversary of Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack expressing solidarity with Israel and urging for the immediate release of hostages. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry also called for an immediate ceasefire to alleviate civilian suffering and promote peace in the region.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took to social media on Monday to mark the first anniversary of Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

"One year after the horrific terrorist attacks of October 7th, we do not forget. The people of Israel have the right to live with security. We also repeat our call for the immediate release of all hostages," he said in a post on X.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for de-escalation in the Middle East as tensions continue to rise. In his weekly government update, he stated that Greece remains "on high alert at all levels."

The European Commission has condemned Iran's missile attack on Israel and called for a ceasefire at the Lebanon-Israel border and in Gaza, along with the release of Israeli hostages.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan criticized Israel on Thursday for its refusal to adopt a two-state solution and warned that the unresolved Palestinian issue poses a risk to regional stability.

"We cannot wait for the goodwill of Israel to implement the two-state solution," Fidan stated.
