In a move to curb the growing risks associated with social media access for children, the government is rolling out a multi-pronged strategy to protect minors under the age of 15. 

Amid concerns about harmful online content, the government has unveiled plans to introduce three key initiatives aimed at improving digital safety for young users.

Greek ministers discussed on Tuesday the government's national strategy to protect children from the dangers of unsupervised internet and digital addiction.

Tech-shy parents in Greece will soon be able to access a comprehensive and easy guide on how to monitor and control the content their children are exposed to online.

Complaints about illegal content on the Internet increased 18.5% in 2023, compared with the previous year, with most of them relating to financial fraud, according to data released on Wednesday by SafeLine.gr, the Greek Safer Internet Center of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas.

Safer Internet Day (SID) is an international event taking place in February every year, which promotes a safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones by children and young people across the world.

The Safer Internet Center Serbia has launched an Android app for reporting illegal and harmful material found on the internet.

The app has been launched to mark Safer Internet Day.

The EU average for internet use is 5%, but in Greece the rate is 31% according to figures by 31 lines of the Helpline Insafe Pan-European Network for the second half of 2014. Greece also has problems in the sector of protecting online privacy (16%, compared to the EU average of 12%).
