Move to shield kids from online dangers

In a move to curb the growing risks associated with social media access for children, the government is rolling out a multi-pronged strategy to protect minors under the age of 15. 

Amid concerns about harmful online content, the government has unveiled plans to introduce three key initiatives aimed at improving digital safety for young users.

Complaints in Greece about illegal content online rose 18.5% in 2023

Complaints about illegal content on the Internet increased 18.5% in 2023, compared with the previous year, with most of them relating to financial fraud, according to data released on Wednesday by SafeLine.gr, the Greek Safer Internet Center of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas.

Greece ranks first in the list of EU countries with excessive internet use

The EU average for internet use is 5%, but in Greece the rate is 31% according to figures by 31 lines of the Helpline Insafe Pan-European Network for the second half of 2014. Greece also has problems in the sector of protecting online privacy (16%, compared to the EU average of 12%).
