Intersex and LGBT

Last week, the Stockholm-based international human rights organization Civil Rights Defenders awarded her the prestigious prize of civil rights defender for her work to bring change to the community in her country, alongside Uganda's Frank Mugisha.

Intersex people in Germany can now legally identify themselves as such under a new law adopted in December, reported BBC. 

People who do not fit the biological definition of male or female can now choose the category "diverse" on official documents.

Those choosing the option will need a doctor's certificate to register.

Freedom of expression, the rights of migrants and refugees to protection, and LGBTI rights remain frequently violated in Balkan countries, according to the latest report by the rights watchdog Amnesty International.
