While Father's Day brings joy to millions of children worldwide, the occasion comes with grief to thousands of Palestinian children, who lost their fathers during the Palestinian intifada (uprising) against the decades-long Israeli occupation.

French police said they arrested more than 200 "yellow vest" demonstrators in Paris on April 20 as clashes broke out with demonstrators turning out for a 23rd week of anti-government protests.

Primary school teachers clashed with riot police in Athens on Monday for the second time in under a week, during a protest against government plans to change public sector hirings.

The yellow vest protests, which have brought particular chaos to Paris over the past few weeks, abated on Dec. 22, though one small gathering around the presidential palace did lead to police firing tear gas and using batons.

Clashes broke out between members of far-right and anti-establishment groups in Thessaloniki, after the end of a student march to protest government efforts to end a dispute with the neighboring Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).

Local media reported that hooded nationalists started throwing stones against opposing groups.

Police in the northern port city of Thessaloniki has detained eight people, including two minors, following clashes with protesters during a visit by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras for the inauguration of Greece's largest trade fair late Saturday.

Authorities said 15 police officers were injured during the clashes and several shops and cars damaged.

Three people detained on Sunday night during a protest rally against June's deal between Athens and Skopje on the name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) will be led before a prosecutor on Monday.

The men, aged 20, 29 and 50, are accused of being among the 30 protesters who threw stones and flares against riot police, who in turn responded with tear gas.

Istanbul police on June 8 detained 21 high school students who gathered in the city's Kadıköy district to launch an anti-government protest. 

More than 100 Palestinians were injured in yet another confrontation with Israeli soldiers on the border of the Gaza sector, local health authorities spokesman Ashraf al-Khyra said.
