Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visits Malta to attend the Valletta Summit which will focus on action for migration.

He is expected to reiterate his position that the refugee crisis must be dealt with as a joint European problem and not as one that concerns only the country of entry.

Caretaker PM Vassiliki Thanou stressed that Greece strictly abides by all EU and international treaties during her participation in a major meeting held on the island of Lesbos to discuss the migrant and refugee crisis. She said that criticism of Greece regarding tension as a result of the country’s handling of migrants came from “isolated voices”.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras pointed out that migration is a critical issue for the whole of Europe, not just Greece. Ahead of a meeting on the refugee crisis, he said that Greece is Europe’s border and receives massive refugee flows.
