The legacy left to us by the architects of the union of 1859, both institutional and symbolic, represents the solid foundation on which to continue Romania's modernization, President Klaus Iohannis said on Sunday, in a message occasioned by the 162nd anniversary of the Union of the Romanian Principalities.

The presidents of the two Chambers of Parliament, Anca Dragu and Ludovic Orban, participate, on Sunday, in the events held on the occasion of the 162nd anniversary of the Union of the Romanian Principalities. Ludovic Orban will attend events organized in Focsani, which will start around 12.45 pm.

Pictures, letters, diplomatic documents, archival documents, press copies in the possession of the Romanian Academy Library illustrating both the role played by Alexandru Ioan Cuza in the Union of 1859 and the measures he took for the modernisation of the state during the seven years of his rule, as well as aspects of his private life, are on display in an exhibition called "The 200th birth ann

Florence, May 3 - AGERPRES special correspondent Daniel Florea reports: President Klaus Iohannis, currently in Florence, on Saturday morning laid a wreath at the commemorative plaque dedicated to Alexandru Ioan Cuza, located next to the residence where the ruler spent the last years of his life.

President Klaus Iohannis attended the Te Deum religious service at the Patriarchal Cathedral on Thursday, officiated by Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR), occasioned by the celebration of the Romanian Principalities Union Day.

Defence Minister Mihai Fifor, announced on Tuesday having signed an order for the establishment of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Military Collegiate High School.

"This collegiate high school in Constanta takes over the beautiful tradition of the School of Marine Children of 1881," Fifor wrote in a Facebook post.
