Wet and stormy conditions forecast for western and northern Greece
The National Meteorological Service has issued a warning of wet and stormy weather expected in parts of western and northern Greece from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday, as the weather system "Petar" makes its way to the country's shores.

A fire broke out this morning on a ferry carrying 288 people on board, sailing from Greece to Italy, the Greek Coast Guard said, world news agencies and Greek media reported.
The ship "Euroferi Olympia" sailed from the Greek port of Igoumenitsa to the Italian city of Brindisi. The fire broke out off the island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea.
Fire on the ferry with 288 passengers on board, helicopters for rescue engaged VIDEO
Greek Kathimerini reports that the passengers have been evacuated and are already in lifeboats, and for now there is no information on whether anyone was injured.
The Coast Guard stated that there were 237 passengers and 51 crew members on board.

Migrant trafficking ring operations disrupted
Authorities believe that an Iraqi Kurd who operates a store in Athens is a major migrant trafficker engaged, mainly, in getting Turks to western Europe, either directly or via Greece.
The trafficker's latest suspected operation, the departure of sailboat La Victoire from the Ionian island of Lefkada, was prevented by the coast guard on November 13.

Police records nearly 2,000 violations in a day
The Hellenic Police (ELAS) on Monday recorded 1,998 violations of a lockdown introduced by the government last month to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Most of the transgressions (673) were in Attica, with 193 in Thessaloniki, 171 in Western Greece, 125 on the Ionian islands, 124 in the Peloponnese and 122 on Crete.

Water Airports postpones operations in Ionian Sea for 2021
Water Airports SA on Monday said it postponed the operation of its seaplane network in the Ionian Sea for 2021 as the coronavirus pandemic has halted licensing procedures, the company CEO told state-run news agency ANA.
Crackdown on ban violators continues as millions send SMS requests
As Greece entered the fourth day of a full lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19 on Thursday, the Hellenic Police (ELAS) said that officers recorded 1,155 violations of a ban on unnecessary movement on March 25 and arrested six people for opening their businesses in contravention of government restrictions introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Magnitude 4.3 quake registered off western Greece
A light earthquake was recorded off the coast of western Greece on Thursday morning, according to the the Athens-based Geodynamic Institute.
At approximately 9.30 a.m. local time, a magnitude 4.3 earthquake was recorded 53 kilometres west of the islands of Strofades in the Ionian Sea, at a depth of 15 kilometers.
No damages were reported.

Police record 1,795 lockdown violations in two days
The Hellenic Police (ELAS) announced on Wednesday that on Tuesday they recorded 1,631 violations of a lockdown imposed by the government on Monday to curb the spread of Covid-19.
In all cases, officers imposed a fine of 150 euros on offenders.
A total of 1,795 violations were recorded on Monday and Tuesday, ELAS said.
