ISIL insurgency in Tunisia

A Tunisian border guard was killed on Aug. 23 in a shootout with jihadists on the border with Algeria, state television and the president of a union of border guards said.

A Tunisian policeman was shot dead on Aug. 19 by two assailants on a motorbike in the coastal resort of Sousse where a jihadist gunman killed 38 tourists in June, a senior security official said.

'Strong' evidence suggests the Bardo Museum attack in Tunisia's capital in March is linked to the beach shooting in the country's resort of Sousse in June, according to British police, the BBC reported on Wednesday.

"Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism officers say they are now connecting the two attacks based on evidence," the BBC revealed.

Britain says Islamist militants may launch further attacks on tourist resorts in Tunisia after a gunman killed 39 people, including at least 15 Britons, in the worst assault of its kind in modern Tunisian history. 

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on June 27 claimed responsibility for a massacre in a Tunisian seaside resort that killed nearly 40 people, most of them British tourists, in the worst attack in the country's recent history.
   

A terrorist attack took place in Sousse, Tunisia, at a beach near a tourist resort, earlier today.

According to the Tunisian Ministry of Interior, the number of dead has reached 27 and is expected to rise.

At least 27 people were killed and several injured as gunmen targeted a tourist hotel near the Tunisian resort city of Sousse on Friday.

The interior ministry informed that a "terrorist attack" was ongoing, with at least one gunman shot dead and another being pursued by security forces, the BBC reports.

Serbian Ambassador to Tunisia Nikola Lukic says no Serbian tourists were staying at the Imperial Marhaba hotel near the site of a terrorist attack on Friday.

According to the BBC, which quoted the Tunisian Interior Ministry, at least 27 people, including foreigners, died in the attack on a beach near two hotels in the resort town of Sousse.

A Tunisian soldier opened fire on colleagues at a military base in the capital Tunis on May 25, killing an officer and two others and wounding 15 more before being shot dead himself, Tunisian authorities said.

In a statement issued today, the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the terror attack on Tunisia’s national museum, which caused the death of 23 people on Wednesday.
