At least 10 Egyptian soldiers killed in Sinai

At least 10 Egyptian soldiers were killed and several injured when two suicide car bombers hit army checkpoints in northern Sinai on July 7, security sources said.

The two cars exploded as they passed through two checkpoints close to each other on a road outside the border city of Rafah, the sources said. No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Egypt says still no proof 'terrorist' attack downed Russia plane

Egypt said on Dec. 14 that it still has no evidence to back up Moscow's analysis that a "terrorist" attack had downed a Russian passenger plane at the end of October in the Sinai Peninsula.

The jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) said it smuggled a bomb on board that blew up the Russian jet on Oct. 31, killing all 224 people on board.

ISIL claims attack that kills five members of Egypt's security forces

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) Egypt affiliate said in a statement on a social media site it carried out an attack in North Sinai on military checkpoints that killed five members of the country's security forces on July 18.

The deaths occurred when several mortar rounds hit two checkpoints, security sources said earlier. 

Sinai Province fires rockets towards airport used by multinational peacekeepers

Sinai Province, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) Egypt affiliate, fired rockets on June 9 at the direction of an airport in Sinai used by multinational peacekeeping forces, security sources said, adding that there were no casualties reported. 

The group claimed responsibility for the attack on several Twitter accounts linked to it.
