UN's Guterres issues 'global SOS' over fast-rising Pacific ocean
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent out a global climate "SOS" at a Pacific islands summit on Tuesday, unveiling research that shows the region's seas rising much more swiftly than global averages.
"I am in Tonga to issue a global SOS — Save Our Seas — on rising sea levels. A worldwide catastrophe is putting this Pacific paradise in peril" he said.

Researchers discover world’s 'northernmost' island
Scientists have discovered what is believed to be the world's northernmost landmass - a yet-to-be-named island north of Greenland that could soon be swallowed up by seawaters.

Researchers came upon the landmass on an expedition in July, and initially thought they had reached Oodaaq, up until now the northernmost island on the planet.

Endangered coral transported across Marmara islands via special method
A species of coral colony that face possible danger of extinction in a reef off Sivriada, one of the Princes' Islands in the Sea of Marmara, has been transferred via a special method to another of the Princes' Islands—known by the names of Tavşan Island or Balıkçı Island or Neandros Island in Greek.

Greek Island Lesbos' population surpassed by refugee numbers
The number of unregistered Syrian migrants that have arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos has exceeded the resident population, some 90,000, this year, said Mayor Spyros Galinos, who has suggested official boat or plane routes to save lives.
Turkey rescues 30 Syrian migrants from sinking boat
Turkey's coastguard rescued 30 Syrians from a boat heading towards Greece after their vessel began to take on water in the Aegean Sea, state media said April 21.
The rescue operation came amid a surge in the numbers of migrants seeking to reach Europe, following the Mediterranean's worst migrant disaster in which as many as 800 people drowned off Libya.
