Israeli invasion of Lebanon

The Israeli army said Wednesday that it detained four people for allegedly approaching its forces in southern Lebanon.

A military statement said the four were questioned on the field, in reference that they had not yet been transferred to Israel.

Thousands of Lebanese displaced by the war between Israel and Hezbollah began the journey back home as a ceasefire took hold on Nov. 27, with many celebrating an end to the 14-month-old deadly war.

The Lebanese army on Wednesday said it is preparing to deploy to the south of the country after a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah entered into effect.

In a statement, the army said based on a request from the government, it will deploy to southern Lebanon in coordination with the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and in implementation of the UN resolution 1701.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon took effect on Wednesday after more than a year of fighting that has killed thousands of people.

U.S. President Joe Biden has announced on Nov. 26 that the U.S. will make another push "in coming days" alongside Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar and Israel to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, as Israel's security Cabinet approved of a U.S.-France-brokered ceasefire deal with Hezbollah, clearing the way for the truce to take effect.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that the Israeli Cabinet is set to approve of a ceasefire deal with Lebanon on Nov. 26, claiming that Israel has a right to respond forcefully to any "violations" by Hezbollah.

Netanyahu stated that Israel will maintain 'full' freedom to act in Lebanon and that the truce will allow Israel to "focus on the Iranian threat."

The IDF has advised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that now is the appropriate time to implement a ceasefire in Lebanon, Channel 12 reported on Monday, citing a close associate of the Israeli Prime Minister.

Twelve people were killed, and eight others were injured in Israeli airstrikes on two areas of Tyre in southern Lebanon today, Monday (25/11), according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health.

The Israeli ambassador to Washington on Monday said that a ceasefire deal to end fighting between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah could be reached "within days."

Israel is reportedly moving closer to a potential ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah in Lebanon, according to reports by Reuters and Axios, which cited a senior Israeli official. However, Israel's public broadcaster Kan, quoting another Israeli official, reported that no final agreement had been reached, with some issues still unresolved.
