Istanbul Biennial

The 18th Istanbul Biennial, for which the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) has been working since March last year with some 58 artists from around the world to realize the event this September, has been postponed to 2025, İKSV has announced.

Iwona Blazwick has been announced as the curator of the 18th Istanbul Biennial to be organized by the Istanbul Foundation of Culture and Arts (IKSV) from Sept. 14 to Nov. 17, 2024.

The 17th Istanbul Biennial will take place between Sept. 11 and Nov. 14 this year.

The 16th Istanbul Biennial - a contemporary art exhibit held every two years since 1987 - opens on Sept. 10 with the title, "The Seventh Continent."

It seems as if September in Istanbul is the season of art: The city's calendar is packed with a bounty of art-related, including the debut of a new museum, Arter; the Istanbul Biennial and dozens of other art exhibitions and events.

The 23rd edition of the Istanbul Theater Festival, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), will take place between Nov. 13 and Dec. 1.

Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (KSV), the fifth Istanbul Design Biennial will take place from Sept. 26 to Nov. 8. The biennial will be curated by architect and curator Mariana Pestana. 

The 16th Istanbul Biennial's title and conceptual framework was announced by the curator Nicolas Bourriaud at a press conference on Dec. 11. Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and sponsored by Koç Holding, the 16th Istanbul Biennial will take place between Sept. 14 and Nov. 10, 2019.

Despite heavy political and diplomatic problems in Turkey, there are signs of a boost in cultural life in the country, showing the desire of at least some Turkish people to stick with universal values. Istanbul in particular is blooming, with marquee arts and culture events opening seemingly every day.
