‘Super-fast’ train to link Istanbul to Ankara in 80 minutes: Minister
The newly initiated super high-speed train project between Istanbul and the capital Ankara will cover 344 kilometers in approximately 80 minutes, Transport and Infrastructure, Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced.

Minister conducts first test of country’s fastest metro line
The first test of the Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport metro line, which will be Turkey's fastest metro line once it is ready with a speed reaching 120 kilometers per hour, has been conducted successfully by the transport and infrastructure minister.

Within the scope of the Train Pulling Competition, a team comprising of five Istanbul metro employees has successfully managed to pull a train wagon along a railway line using nothing but their body strength in the Turkish metropolis.
Historical artifacts found in Kabataş
Works at the Kabataş metro station have unearthed archaeological remains in the area. Archaeologist Mehmet Ali Polat said that they will highly likely find a small ancient harbor as works progress.

Women revolutionizing Istanbul’s public transportation
Women are putting their mark on Istanbul's public transportation, as the number of women drivers working at the Istanbul Metro has risen to 99 out of the total 772.
Carrying commuters all day and working underground in different shifts, women metro drivers strictly oppose being called "vatman," a word of French origin, which means tram drivers, representing male workers.
Istanbul hit by heavy storm
Turkey's largest city was hit with a heavy storm early on Feb. 9, with trees and roofs toppled.
The storm began with light rain on Istanbul's European districts including Sultangazi, Gaziosmanpaşa, Bakırköy, Bağcılar, Beyoğlu, Kağıthane, Bayrampaşa and Esenler.

Proposal to increase number of cabs in Istanbul rejected once again
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's proposal to roll out 6,000 new taxi licenses has been rejected once again by the decision of the city's transportation coordination body.
The proposal of the municipality was put on the agenda for the third time at the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting held at the Istanbul Congress Center on Nov. 26.
More efforts planned to rehabilitate Kurbağalıdere creek
A new tender has been held to select a company to carry out additional work to rehabilitate Kurbağalıdere, one of the central creeks in Istanbul's Kadıköy district on the Asian side.
Some 250 million Turkish Liras (around $39 million) have been spent over the past eight years to clean the highly polluted creek.
Antique and Nostalgia Festival in Istanbul
The Antique and Nostalgia Festival will bring together antique dealers from Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Ortaköy, Üsküdar and Kadıköy districts at the Istanbul Naval Museum on March 9. The festival will be open through March 17 between 10 a.m and 5 p.m.
