Ljubljana – The coronavirus pandemic has fully exposed our vulnerability and weaknesses, taking away health and unfortunately also many lives, Prime Minister Janez Janša said in his Easter message, released on Sunday. He is confident that Slovenia will overcome this trial.
Janša to hold virtual meeting with von der Leyen on Thursday
Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša will speak to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen virtually on Thursday, as the EU summit in Brussels will also be held online and not in person as originally scheduled. Janša and Culture Minister Vasko Simoniti will meanwhile not take part in a discussion on the media scheduled in the European Parliament.
Prosecutors complain to CoE about PM’s “inadmissible pressure”
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Association of State Prosecutors has turned to the Council of Europe (CoE) to complain about “inadmissible pressure” that they say Prime Minister Janez Janša and media that he controls are exerting on prosecutors.

Janša congratulate new Italian prime minister
Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša has congratulated Mario Draghi on becoming the new prime minister of Italy, saying he looked forward to a strengthening of relations.
“I am looking forward to further strengthening our good neighbourly relations and cooperation in many areas, both regionally, in Europe and globally,” Janša wrote on Twitter in English.

Public figures urging de-escalation and cooperation
Ljubljana – A group of public figures from social and political spheres has called on politicians, media and opinion leaders to de-escalate tensions, bridge the divides and meet the current challenges together. They also warned about what they see as months-long political and media campaign that does not contribute to a more effective response to the pandemic.
PM questions suitability of proposed university applications
Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša has wondered in a Facebook post whether Slovenia will have a competitive edge in the fourth industrial revolution compared to countries where there are twice as many people studying science and technology than humanities, whereas in Slovenia the share of the former is 37% and 39% of the latter.
Left mulling no-confidence vote against education minister
Ljubljana – The opposition Left is working on a motion to dismiss Education Minister Simona Kustec because the government has decided to close schools in two regions next week after only four days of in-person education.
Education and children’s needs have never been the government’s priority, the party said in a written statement on Thursday.

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s Prime Minister Janez Janša announced late Wednesday evening that he had sent congratulations to the newly sworn-in US President Joseph Biden.
Epidemiologist Fafangel Delo’s person of the year
Ljubljana – Mario Fafangel, the head of the Centre for Communicable Diseases at the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), was declared the Person of the Year 2020 by the newspaper publisher Delo at an online event on Thursday evening. He was labelled the leading epidemiologist “showing us the way in the restless sea of the epidemic”.
