Journalistic confidentiality must be respected by everyone and cannot be protected a la carte, depending on who is behind a journalistic investigation.
We need investigative journalism, as long as it respects the elementary code of conduct, in order to exercise control and create a legitimate fear of publicizing criminal acts, or simply irresponsible handling of events.

New challenges for journalism
Our work, that of a journalist, is increasingly fraught with challenges worldwide. A poignant example of this was evident after the recent bombing of a hospital in Gaza, where even renowned media organizations like The New York Times and the BBC found themselves in the position of having to issue apologies or explanations for their coverage.

European Parliament moves to bolster media freedom
STRASBOURG - The European Parliament has approved proposals for an EU media freedom law aimed at protecting reporters from political interference, allowing them to keep sources secret and ensuring media pluralism across the bloc. At the same time, obstacles to media freedom are becoming increasingly apparent across the continent.

EU Commission detects progress in Slovenia Rule of Law Report
The European Commission has noted progress in the Slovenian justice system, media freedom and the fight against corruption, but also pointed to challenges in its latest Rule of Law Report. It urged the country to take additional measures, including to protect journalists.

Tanjug signs contract with Cyprus's CNA
BELGRADE - Serbia's Tanjug News Agency and the Cypriot news agency CNA on Tuesday signed a contract on inter-agency cooperation.
After signing the contract during a Zoom session, Tacno Director Manja Grcic said cooperation with European and global news agencies was very important for Tanjug.
Tacno is the holder of the Tanjug trademarks.

Slovenia moves up in World Press Freedom Index
Slovenia has climbed four spots in the latest World Press Freedom Index to rank 50th among 180 countries. The country has thus moved up from being in a 'problematic situation' to join countries whose press media situation is judged to be 'satisfactory'.
