Vandals destroy history in Phrygian Valley
The Phrygian Valley, located within the borders of the Aegean provinces of Kütahya and Afyonkarahisar and the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir, has suffered heavy destruction by treasure hunters. Targeting rock tombs, churches and castles in the region, the vandals also destroyed the walls of the rock-hewn Ayazini Church built a millennium ago with dynamite.

Locals wash fish to help them survive 'pitch black water' in Turkey's west
Locals in the western Kütahya province's Domaniç district were busy washing the fish coming out of the heavily polluted stream running through villages on July 21 as contamination levels have caused fish deaths.

Ancient city of Aizanoi set to host symphonic concert
A symphonic folklore concert will be organized at the ancient city of Aizanoi in the inner Aegean province of Kütahya on July 22 to promote Aizanoi to the world, the Culture and Tourism Ministry announced in a statement.
Soldier kills three others before committing suicide in Turkey's west
A soldier in the Aegean province of Manisa killed three other soldiers before killing himself on June 11, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
The soldier, who reportedly suffered a nervous breakdown and was identified only by his initials N.A., opened fire in a gendarmerie station in Manisa's Kula district.
Village women up in arms to stop museum construction in Turkey's Kütahya
Around 300 village woman took up pickaxes, shovels, rakes and axes in order to halt construction of a museum on a pasture in the western Turkish province of Kütahya on June 2, Doğan News Agency has reported.
Women from Kütahya's İnköy neighborhood blocked the Kütahya-Eskişehir highway in protest at the Archeology Museum construction plan.
Culture Minister visits Aizanoi
Turkish officials are hopeful that the ancient city of Aizanoi in the inner Aegean province of Kütahya will soon become "a second Ephesus," according to Culture and Tourism Minister Nabi Avcı.

Treasure hunters unearth burial chamber in Turkey's west
An ancient Roman-era burial chamber has been unearthed by treasure hunters who dug a three-meter tunnel inside a shanty house in the western province of Kütahya.
The suspects kept the earth from the tunnel in the shanty house in the Alipa?a neighborhood.
