Jazz on the Islands

Organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Department, the second edition of 'Jazz on Princes' Islands' will take place from June 27 to 30. The four-day festival will host special jazz musicians on Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada Old Pier Square and Kınalıada, as well as the Adalar ferry piers in Kadıköy, Kabataş and Bostancı.

Locals protest against Turkish island's 'monstrobuses'

Ibrahim Aycan has been waging all-out war against the electric minibuses newly introduced on the car-free island of Büyükada, which he says threaten his corner of paradise on the southern shores of Istanbul.

"We live a peaceful life here," said Aycan, a lawyer and head of the Association of Friends of the Island.

"These vehicles sadden us. Let people walk and cycle!"

Turkish corvette arrives in Japan as part of honorary voyage

The Turkish corvette TCG Kınalıada has arrived in Japan as part of its expedition to the Far East, retracing the route of the ill-fated frigate Ertuğrul, which sank en route from Japan in 1890.

The voyage also marks the centennial milestone of diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Japan.

The arrival was announced by a Defense Ministry post on June 8.

Istanbul’s Beşiktaş-Adalar winter ferry line cancelled, other services reduced

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) run City Lines has announced a suspension of ferry services between the Beşiktaş district on Istanbul’s European side and the Princes’ Islands (“Adalar” in Turkish) from Jan. 1 until June 3 later this year.

Population on Istanbul's Princes islands to rise more than fivefold if new construction plan is accepted

A plan that would pave the way for far-flung construction on Istanbul's Princes Islands "Adalar" has been presented to an Istanbul preservation board. If the plan is approved, the population on the islands, recorded as 14,000 in the last census conducted seven years ago, will grow apace to 76,000.
