Director of Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency in Kardzhali Fired

The direction of the state agency to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works in Kardzhali has a new director starting Tuesday, BGNES reported.

Orhan Ibrahim, who was the director of the Road Infrastructure Agency in the southern Bulgarian town was fired on account of bad management of the crisis situation with the heavy snowfalls in the region.

Code Red Issued in Southern Bulgaria over Snow, Gale-Force Winds

A code red warning has been issued for Friday in two municipalities in the south of Bulgaria, the national meteorology institute has announced.

In the regions of Smolyan and Kardzhali, snowfall of up to 70 l/sqm is expected, according to the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Science.

Heavy Snow, Rain Cause Chaos Throughout Bulgaria

Code Red warning for heavy rain was declared in three Bulgarian districts - Smolyan, Kardzhali and Haskovo, Saturday.

The situation in the Smolyan village of Banite is critical because of a flooding and landslides, the center of the town of Haskovo is under water, Nova TV reports. At some places the rainfall has reached 90 liters per square meter.

Code Orange Issued in Seven Bulgarian Districts Over Heavy Rains, Wind

Code Orange warning for potentially dangerous weather has been issued in seven Bulgarian districts on Wednesday over rains and strong winds.

Heavy downpours are expected in the districts of Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Haskovo, Smolyan, Kardzhali and Blagoevgrad, warned by the Ministry of Environment and Water.

Archaeological Dig At Perperikon Gets Extra Funding

The archaeological dig at the Perperikon complex in south eastern Bulgaria got extra funding and will hire another 30 people, reports Vesti.bg.

The head of the expedition Nikolai Ovcharov told journalists that the extra BGN 80 000 funding from the Kurdzhali municipality expands the total sum for this year to BGN 150 000. 

Bulgaria's Ancient City of Perperikon Excavations Funding Trimmed

The archaeological excavations of the Thracian city of Perperikon, located in Bulgaria's Eastern Rhodopes will start on August 4, professor Nikolay Ovcharov announced.

Ovcharov, who heads the research team, stated that this year the State has allocated BGN 80 thousand for the excavations at Perperikon, while the needed funding amounts to BGN 200 thousand.
