However, a career guidance test changed everything, revealing a talent for theater and dance, despite her limited exposure to performing on stage.

It was 1949 when a group of hopeful young scientists boarded a ship and sailed across the Atlantic, leaving behind a Greece devastated by World War II and in the grips of civil strife. They were the first batch of Greeks to receive a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States, thus launching an exchange of knowledge and know-how that continues to this day.

Actor Petros Fyssoun dies

The actor Petros Fyssoun, 83, died on December 5 at Sotiria Hospital from a respiratory infection.
The much loved actor, born in Agrinio, Greece, on October 5, 1933, was the son of a Russian émigré who had settled in Greece after the Russian Revolution.

Actor Yiannis Voglis, 79, dies

Stage, film and TV actor Yiannis Voglis has died at the age of 79. Voglis started his theater character in 1961 under legendary director Karolos Koun. Voglis worked alongside a number of Greece's star actors, such as Elli Lambeti and Manos Katrakis.

His film career also began in the 1960s and he subsequently had parts in numerous TV series over the last few decades.
