Thousands march to commemorate fallen WWI soldiers
Thousands of people marched on Jan. 8 in the eastern province of Kars to commemorate the tens of thousands of Ottoman soldiers killed in the Sarıkamış operation during World War I.
The starting point of the march was Kızılçubuk, where the ill-fated operation against the Russian Caucasus Army began.

Migratory brown bears return to nests for hibernation
The only migratory brown bears in the world live in the Sarıkamış district of the eastern province of Kars. Before hibernation every year they travel long distances, walking to Artvin in the north in order to find food. This year, they have already returned to their nests in the Sarıkamış forest to go on a months-long sleep.

Fox cub found roadside
A fox cub that was found by a local man abandoned on the roadside in Erzurum's Oltu district has been taken under protection by the National Parks Oltu Branch and sent to the Kars Animal Hospital.
