Hellenic Railways (OSE), the company responsible for the country's national rail network, is inspecting lighting signals and other safety systems after an Intercity train stopped just 1.5 kilometers short of colliding with a stationary suburban railway train in Pieria in northern Greece on Monday.

Fatal amusement park ride was destined for scrap

An amusement park ride on which a teen lost his life last week was reportedly sold for scrap in 2020 but its new owner decided to keep it in operation after making improvised repairs, its previous owner has reportedly claimed.

The woman, who is described as the owner of an amusement park in the town of Katerini, has been asked to testify to an investigating magistrate about the case.

Hellenic Train: delays in the suburban train services between Thessaloniki-Larissa

Delays are expected in all suburban train services between Thessaloniki and Larissa, due to yesterday’s fire in Litochoro and the loss of electricity, Hellenic Train said in a post.

Wildfire breaks out in Macedonia

A wildfire broke out near a residential area in Litochoro, Macedonia.

The fire service has dispatched 18 firefighters with seven vehicles, three aircraft, and one helicopter to the scene.

A 112 alert message was sent to residents of Plaka, urging them to evacuate towards Katerini and Leptokarya.

Van collision with tourist bus leaves one dead in northern Greece

One man died when the van he was driving smashed into the back of a  tourist bus temporarily stopped in the emergency lane of Greece's main north-south highway near the town of Katerini, early Thursday morning. 

The accident happened at tthe 417th kilometre of the Athens-Thessaloniki highway, in the direction if Athens, five kilometres after the Litohoro junction, police said.
