Kibyra

A 2,000-year-old fountain that was discovered to have been active up to the seventh century is now once more supplying water in the Ancient City of Kibyra in Burdur after a recent restoration.

Thirty graves, many of which are believed to have belonged to the important clergy of the city at that time, have been unearthed in a basilica-planned church in the ancient city of Kibyra in the Gölhisar district of the southern province of Burdur.

Turkey's southern province of Burdur welcomes thousands of local and foreign visitors every year thanks to its historical sites. Home to ancient cities such as Kibyra and Sagalassos that contains dozens of historical artifacts, Burdur also attracts attention with its museums, which welcomed 249,000 people in 2019.

A statue of the Ancient Greek god of health Asclepius and a bust of the god Serapis were found during the excavations in the ancient city of Kibyra in the Gölhisar district of the southern province of Burdur.

Excavations that have been ongoing in the ancient city of Kibyra, which is located in the southern province of Burdur's Gölhisar District, have unraveled the head of a marble bust of Serapis and a statue of Asclepius from the Roman period.

Popularly known as the "city of heroic warriors and fast horses," the ancient city made it to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2016.

The ancient city of Kibyra, also known as the "city of gladiators," in southwestern Turkey is set to become a new tourist hotspot.

The 2,300-year-old city is located among juniper and cedar forests in the Gölhisar district of Burdur province at an altitude of 1,350 meters (4,429 feet).
