With the cost of private beach facilities continuing to rise, more and more families are opting for public beaches, spurred by ongoing efforts to promote and expand them.

The trend is evident in locations like Kilyos, where Istanbulites often set up chairs, tables and tents to enjoy the seaside and take a refreshing dip in cooling waters.

The northern coast of Istanbul, particularly the shores of Kilyos, has become a haven for kitesurfers amidst the current warm and breezy weather of the Black Sea.

An ammunition box, believed to have come from a previously sunken Russian intelligence boat, was found washed ashore on May 7 on a beach in Karasu, a town in the northwestern Turkish province of Sakarya on the Black Sea coast. 

The discovery was reportedly made by a local fisherman, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.  

A Russian naval intelligence ship sank off Turkey's Black Sea coast on April 27 after colliding with a vessel carrying livestock, Turkey's Coast Guard said, noting that all 78 personnel on board were evacuated.

The ship, identified as the Liman, collided with the Togo-flagged Youzarsif H., the authority said on its website.

The 5th Babylon Soundgarden Festival will be held May 23 at Babylon Kilyos, which is to be the festival's permanent home.
