The Athens-Epidaurus Festival (aefestival.gr) is inaugurating its program at the cool Pireos 260 venue with a feast of shows for the week starting on June 7. On Stage D, avant-garde Russian theater and film director Kirill Serebrennikov is making his Greek debut with a performance expressing his opposition to Moscow and its invasion of Ukraine.

As he said, overall world circumstances have changed in the last ten years.
"We are all witnessing a very tense atmosphere and mistrust between countries, and this tension is growing and threatens to turn into a large-scale war. Relations have gone backwards, given that they have deteriorated so much," said Patriarch Kirill, reports Sputnik.

Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos, the top-ranking bishop of the world's 300 million Orthodox Christians, has unleashed scathing criticism of Moscow Patriarch Kirill over the latter's decision to lend the Russian Church's full support to Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine, with countless civilian deaths and brutal murders.

Russian Patriarch Kirill has reportedly sent messages to world leaders including Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, asking for their support in his feud with Kiev over the issue of the Ukrainian Church's independence from Moscow.

Patriarch Kirill of the Orthodox Church of Moscow visited Bartholomew I, the patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church based in Istanbul, on Aug. 31 in an eleventh hour bid to prevent the Ukrainian church from being separated from Moscow.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will meet with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday as he will be in Moscow on a working visit.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 10.30 a.m., ahead of a joint press briefing set for an hour later.

Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill said he was aggrieved by what he called the Bulgarian government's attempts to dilute his country's role during the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish war, which paved the way for Bulgaria's liberation after five centuries of Ottoman rule, reported Reuters.
