Thousands of people, including leading politicians and businesspeople, attended the funeral of Mustafa Koç, the chairman of Turkey’s largest conglomerate

President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said he talked about defense projects with Koç Holding Chairman Mustafa Koç a day before the businessman's death from a heart attack on Jan. 21. Erdo?an also said he'll attend the funeral ceremony of Koç on Jan. 24.

Mustafa Koç, the chairman of Turkey's largest conglomerate, died of a heart attack on Jan. 21, the Vehbi Koç Foundation American Hospital in Istanbul has announced. 

He had been brought to Istanbul's Beykoz State Hospital on the morning of Jan. 21.

He was hospitalized to Istanbul's Beykoz State Hospital and his condition reported to be critical.

Koç was later transferred to the Vehbi Koç Foundation American Hospital (Amerikan Hastanesi), which he owns, by helicopter.

A notorious convicted criminal has publicly issued death threats against academics and intellectuals who called on the Turkish government to end security operations in Southeast Anatolia, just a day after President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an labeled more than 1,000 national and international academics as "poor excuses for intellectuals."
