Traffic diversions in Athens on Sunday

Traffic will be diverted on central thoroughfares in the capital this Sunday on the occasion of the Summer Nostos Festival Run - Running for the Future, a nighttime race organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to mark Olympic Day Run, an international Olympic Movement activity promoting mass participation sports.

Former artistic director Yannis Houvardas returns to the Greek National Theater with a modern and quirky production of "The Misanthrope," a Moliere classic embraced by stage artists around the world for its adaptability and the way it exposes hypocrisy, regardless of time and place. The production is in Greek, but comes with English subtitles every Saturday (8.30 p.m.) and Sunday (7 p.m.).

Three Greek Women | Athens | March 27

In celebration of the centenary of the birth of Greek composer, pianist and teacher Rena Kyriakou, the Athens Concert Hall introduces two lesser-known but equally important female composers - Mario Foscarina Damaschino (1850-1921) and Eleni Lambiri (1889-1960) - in a concert with the Athens Philharmonic, conducted by Byron Fidetzis, and pianist Giorgos Constantinou. Tickets cost 8-25 euros.

Lantsias & Klampanis Jazz | Athens | March 10 & 11

Acclaimed Greek jazz musicians and composers Stavros Lantsias and Petros Klampanis will perform pieces from their respective oeuvres as well as work they have created together inspired by traditional Greek folk music at the Athenaeum Cellar. They will be joined by Thomas Constantinou on the oud and vocals, and Panos Dimitrakopoulos on the quanun. Shows start at 10 p.m. on Saturday and 9 p.m.

Starting on Friday, February 23 and running through May 27, productions at the main stage of the Greek National Theater will have English surtitles on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The company's main production is Arthur Miller's 1955 play "A View from the Bridge," set in an Italian neighborhood near New York City's Brooklyn Bridge.

"Selves and Others," an exhibition at the headquarters of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation, comprises 400 oil paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and, mainly, portraits, by celebrated artists from the personal collection of the great Greek stage designer Dionysis Fotopoulos. The show at the Eynardou Mansion will be inaugurated at 8 p.m.

The National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation presents "Fokion Rok: The Sculptor and His Archive," an exhibition casting light on the different aspects of the life and work of this important Greek artist (1895-1941), showcasing his contribution to the evolving Greek art scene in the early 20th century but also how he expressed the zeitgeist. Opening hours are Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 a.m.

Athens Mayor nixes neo-Nazi event

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis has emphatically refused to grant permission to extreme-right party Golden Dawn to stage an event at the Chorofylaki park in the suburb of Goudi.

"There is no way that Golden Dawn will be granted the park," Kaminis told a meeting of the city council Thursday.
