Ex-minister reflects on ‘unspeakable tragedy’
Former transport and infrastructure minister Kostas A. Karamanlis, who resigned in the aftermath of the deadly train collision in central Greece that claimed 57 lives and left scores injured on February 28, 2023, issued a statement on the one-year anniversary of the incident on Wednesday.

It took 16 years before Greece could allow the establishment of private universities. We could have had them since 2007 when the then conservative premier Kostas Karamanlis proposed a change to Article 16 of the Constitution, but he was not able to secure the consent of PASOK leader George Papandreou.

Two former transport ministers could face probe
The case of a contract to build or upgrade remote control and signaling systems for Greek railways has been transmitted to Parliament to determine the culpability of two former transport ministers for the delays in its implementation.
The case was taken up by the European Public Prosecutor's Office.

Former transport minister Karamanlis set for re-election
Kostas A. Karamanlis, who resigned as transport minister following the tragic train collision in Tempe in February, appears to be on track for re-election as an MP in Serres, northern Greece.
According to the latest data from the Interior Ministry, with the majority of votes counted, New Democracy is leading in Serres, a five-seat constituency, with just under 47 percent of the vote.
