Krasna polyana

Residents of Sofia's "Krasna Polyana" neighborhood are once again raising concerns about dangerously polluted air as the fall season brings worsening conditions. Locals report a strong smell of synthetics, burnt clothes, and tires in the air, with some saying it is visibly dirty. Many blame nearby areas, including the "Vietnamese dormitories," for contributing to the pollution.

A 24-year-old man has been detained in Sofia for allegedly assaulting a woman, police reported. The attack took place on October 31 in the Krasna Polyana district, near the woman's residence. Following a report, medical personnel and police arrived at the scene, finding the woman with bruises, injuries, and several knocked-out teeth.

Today, due to high summer temperatures, the Metropolitan Municipality of Sofia will distribute free mineral water to citizens, as announced by the municipal administration.

Sanctions in the amount of over BGN 120,000 have been imposed on the snow removal companies in Sofia, Nikolay Nedelkov, director of the Sofia Inspectorate, announced to BNR.

Dangerous weather across the country. A yellow code for heavy rainfall has been announced throughout Western and Northern Bulgaria, and in three areas the danger was raised to orange early this morning.

There will be free vaccination posts or so called  "green corridors"  for vaccinations against Covid-19 in public parks and shopping malls in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on June 26 and 27.

The opportunity for administering Covid-19 jabs in outdoor spaces at places convenient to the members of the public is at the initiative of Sofia Municipality and Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate.

Sofia Municipality announced, that buffer parking lots near subway stations in Sofia are free today and tomorrow.

This is necessary due to the increased air pollution in the city. The free parking lots are next to the Inter Expo Center metro stations - Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd., Beli Dunav Blvd. in Nadezhda District and Vasil Levski National Stadium on Dragan Tsankov Blvd.

Elevated levels of fine particulate matter have been registered in Sofia, airsofia.info reported. According to the map, the air is polluted in almost the entire city. 

Most polluted residential areas are Knyazhevo, Gorna Banya, Karpuzitsa, Boyana, Ovcha Kupel, Studentski grad, Krasna Polyana and parts of Mladost 2.

Teams of the Sofia Inspectorate are carrying out inspections of sources of air pollution with particulate matter from construction sites, auto repair shops, tyre fitting centres, waste-buying sites, furniture manufacturers, as well as outdoor waste burning, said the Sofia Municipality press office.

91% of Sofia citizens like their city, while 57% believe that the capital is becoming a better place to live. This shows a representative poll of more than 2,500 people conducted by Alfa Research. It is part of the large-scale municipal initiative "Vision for Sofia", which should outline how the city will develop until 2050, the newspaper "24 hours" writes.
