The head of the Arslantepe excavations, Professor Marcelle Frangipane said Arslantepe Mound, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, should be on the main list with its unique adobe palace and rich historical past.

The archaeological site of Arslantepe in the eastern province of Malatya, which was added to the tentative list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2014, is eyeing being bestowed recognition in the permanent list.

Excavations at the Tayinat Mound in the southern Turkish province of Hatay have uncovered an ancient sculpture of a woman, around the same size as the statue of King Suppiluliuma previously discovered at the site.

The sculpture, which is made up of a head and body, is thought to date back to the late Hittite period in the 9th century B.C. 

Reflecting the rich culture of Anatolia, the Arslantepe Mound in the eastern province of Malatya is shedding light on history thanks to its adobe palace with colorful figures on its walls, a 5,500-year-old temple and many artifacts such as ancient swords and spears.
