Halide Edip: Pillar of Turkish literature
Commemorated on the 57th anniversary of her passing on Jan. 9, 1964, Halide Edip Adıvar was a literary giant as the author of the first war novel in Turkish literature, as well as one of Anadolu Agency's founders.

Yass?ada 'Democracy Island' construction project started
A construction project on the uninhabited Yass?ada, a small but infamous island located off the coast of Istanbul?s Asian side in the Marmara Sea, was officially started on May 14 in a ceremony with the participation of the prime minister.
6,000 people honor Atatürk’s memory by forming his portrait
Some 6,000 people formed a giant portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, with their bodies on Aug. 26, the anniversary of the 1922 Battle of Dumlupınar, one of the final battles in Turkeyâs War of Independence.
Rare photos mark 100th anniversary of WWI
The Turkish Historical Society has released historical photographs from World War I to mark the 100th anniversary of the war, which show Ottoman troops fighting in seven different battlefields including Gallipoli, Iraq and Yemen.
