Turkey replaces finance minister

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan replaced the country's finance minister on Dec. 2.

According to a presidential decree issued near midnight, Erdoğan accepted the resignation of Lütfi Elvan and appointed his deputy Nureddin Nebati as the new finance minister.

Elvan had been in the role since November 2020.

Public finance to remain important pillar of economic stability: Minister

Strong public finance will continue to be an important pillar of macroeconomic stability in Turkey, the country's treasury and finance minister said on Nov. 16.

"On the inflation front, unfortunately, we aren't at the level we desire," Lütfi Evan said in a speech at the Turkish Capital Markets Congress in Istanbul.

Turkey's finance minister meets with German business leaders

Turkish Finance and Treasury Minister Lütfi Elvan gathered with top managers of German companies on July 13 for introducing investment opportunities in Turkey.

Recalling that the Turkish economy expanded by 1.8% in 2020, Elvan said preliminary data signals positive GDP results in 2021 for Turkey.

Turkish, US treasury chiefs meet in Venice

Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Lütfi Elvan and U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on July 9 met on the sidelines of a G20 meeting in Venice.

"We held a very fruitful meeting [with Yellen] for the improvement of our economic and trade ties," Elvan wrote on Twitter amid the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting.

Turkey committed to implementing economic reforms: Elvan

Turkey is committed to implementing economic reforms, the country's treasury and finance minister told EU envoys on April 2. 

At a meeting held via video link, Lutfi Elvan briefed ambassadors and representatives of EU member states about the economic reforms announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on March 12.

No compromise from free-market mechanism: Turkish finance minister

Attaching great importance to the markets' efficient and solid functioning, Turkey will not compromise from the free-market mechanism, the country's treasury and finance minister said on Mach 22. 

"Liberal exchange regime will continue resolutely," Lütfi Elvan said in a statement.
